1966 Christmas Fancy Dress Party

In 1966 a Christmas Party was held at the Wyong Youth Hall (still the administrative headquarters at that stage) in fancy dress.  The pictures are well worth adding to the website, as they tell several thousand words.  The archives note this about the party:

At the party we played several games which were originally used by Bonnie Bryant and seemed to be enjoyed by all.  There was dancing for those who wished to join in, but the main attraction for the night was the judging of the costumes.  Each member was to come in costume and represent a television character or television advertisement.

The members of the group were sorry to have to farewell some of our staunch and hard working members as they have had to leave the district due to their occupations.  Those who had to leave were John and Lorna Worgan, Ian Tasker and Marilyn Bryant.  We wish them every success in their future positions.

We had the pleasure of welcoming several new members to the group and we hope to see them come along to our meetings and join in the New Year’s activities after our Christmas recess.

The Costume Characters who came to the party were:

bulletFred & Wilma Flintstone
bulletGilligan
bulletGlo-Weave shirts

bulletA Minstrel (black & white type)
bulletCommonwealth Bank Elephant
bulletWorld Championship Wrestler
bulletCasper the friendly Ghost

Fred Chapman as a World Championship Wrestler and Mildred Ede as the Commonwealth Bank Elephant.
Ian Tasker as Gilligan and Gwen Clarke (love me in my Glo-Weave shirt).  Mildred Ede as the elephant is in the background on the right.
Beverley Say as Audra Barkley of A Big Valley and Pamela Say as a Black & White Minstrel.
Phyllis Bennett as Fred Flintstone and Isobel Unsworth as Wilma.
All on the dance floor in the Youth Hall at the party.  Note Gilligan, the wrestler (now disrobed) and the Commonwealth Bank elephant (not disrobed).
Article in the Tuggerah Lakes News in around November 1966 about our young member Ian Tasker, who later worked for the Arts Council.  (Ian has sadly since passed away).
