Re: Arsenic and Old Lace Cast Announced
Dt: 27 October 2004
Millie Sampson is pleased to be able to announce the cast of Arsenic and Old
Lace which is set to open at Wyong Memorial Hall on Thursday 4 November. To most
people, mentioning Arsenic and Old Lace drums up memories of the movie with Cary
Grant, and the two charming Aunts he lives with in Brooklyn.
Millie has assembled a large cast for the show with ten men (playing eleven
roles) and five women (playing three roles).
The dear Aunties are played by Karen Ractliffe (Abby) and Pam Campbell and
Jeanette McCurry (alternate Martha). The Cary Grant role, Mortimer, is played by
Duncan Mitchell. Mortimer’s two brothers are John Czerniecki (Jonathon) and
Peter Deane (Teddy).
Mortimer’s love interest, Elaine, is played alternately by Jenny Sharrock and
Lianne Rijff. Dr Einstein is played by Hagen Heinrich. The policemen are Stuart
Mortimer (Brophy), Damien van der Muelen (Klein), Paul Ractliffe (O’Hara) and
Jamie Pierce (Rooney). Mark Gerlach plays Mr Schmidt and Barry Sampson ably
plays both Reverend Harper and Doctor Witherspoon.
Barry was telling us about an English boxer named Witherspoon. He actually
killed a man in the boxing ring. “Witherspoon?” “No, with his fists.”
As always with Wyong Drama Group, the play will be held at Wyong Memorial
Hall, in Anzac Avenue Wyong. We offer excellent value for money by giving an
all-up price. We don’t charge extra for programmes or tea and coffee at
interval. We are also doing an extra Sunday matinee, at 2pm on the first week.
Bookings can be made by phoning the WDG bookings line on XXXX-XXXX.
