Canberra Festival of One Act Plays (2006)

Wyong
Drama Group sent three plays to the Canberra Drama Festival which was held on
Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October 2006. The
plays were Hewers of Coal by Joe Corrie, directed by Millie Sampson and Darlene Cole
directed two, Mother & Son: The Last Straw by Geoffery Atherden and
The Donoghue Sisters
by Geraldine Aron.
These plays had previously been presented at the
Wyong TheatreFest a few months before.
There were a total of 15 entries, so the competition was fairly stiff.
In fact, The Donoghue Sisters was also presented by another group, Henry
Lawson Theatre from Werrington, near Penrith.
Happily, WDG came away with no less than six awards. Best Actor for Hagen
Heinrich (Mother & Son); Best Actress for Ruth Jordon/Christine
Vale/Pollyanna Forshaw (Donoghue Sisters); Best Supporting Actor for
Laszlo Weidlich (Mother & Son); Best Characterisation for Pam Campbell (Mother
& Son) and Best Director for Darlene Cole (for I think The Donoghue
Sisters but it may also have been Mother & Son, the adjudicator
wasn't particularly clear).
