Of Mice... and Memories

This was a set of three One-Act plays presented on July 22-25 1992 at the Memorial Hall.  These three plays were also taken to the Port Macquarie Players' Festival of Theatre (31 July-2 August 1992)  The plays were:

The Maltese Mouse by Peter Kocan

In it were Adrian Adam, Angie Bain, Gwen Clarke, Nigel Eynon, Stephanie Weidlich and Laszlo Weidlich.   It was directed by Maxine Morris.  It is a complete spoof based on Humphrey Bogart's Maltese Falcon, of course.  At Port Macquarie, Adrian Adam was runner-up Best Actor, and Peter Kocan won Best Unpublished Play.  The production was also nominated for Best Ensemble Performance.  This was performed in the 2pm session on Saturday 1 August 1992.

The Maltese Mouse was also recycled as our 1992 (Fifth Annual) Bush Bash one-act play.  This was held on Saturday 22 August and again featured the band The Lantana Brothers (returning for their third Bush Bash).

See if I Care by Cherry Voight

This was the first time WDG produced this moving play and it featured Julie Bailey, Lisa Casson, Barbara Oliver, Susie Reynolds, Linda Fletcher and Pollyanna Forshaw.  It was directed by Bonnie Bryant.  The play is about the two old ladies as they spend their days in the park to relieve the monotony of the "Special Guest House for Older Ladies". They discover, however, that things are not as they appear to be.  The play was reprised in 1998 for the Wyong TheatreFest.  At Port Macquarie it was presented in the 9:30am session on Sunday 2 August 1992.  Unfortunately it did not receive any awards or nominations.

A Place in the Present by Ron Blair

This was directed by Ray Noonan.  In it were Ray Noonan, Pam Campbell, Laszlo Weidlich, Bonnie Oldham and John Czerniecki.  This bizarre comedy, touching on the impulse of love and the reality of marriage, focuses on a headmistress, an escapologist and a meths drinker.  At Port Macquarie it was presented in the 8pm session on Saturday 1 August 1992.  Laszlo Weidlich won Best Supporting Actor.

Also at Port Macquarie, the Adjudicator's Special Award was given to our stage manager Don Clark for control and efficiency of the backstage crew.

Another piece of Trivia for you: in the Port Macquarie Festival programme you will see an entry from the Kemspey Singers entitled Pussycat, Pussycat, Where Have You Been? (Session 2; Saturday at 9:30am).  In the play was Pat Trott, who moved to Wyong and directed and acted in plays for the Wyong Drama Group.  The crew included Millie Sampson (then known as Mildred Guffogg) who moved to Wyong and directed and acted in plays for us; and Barry Sampson who moved to Wyong and acted in plays, has been stage manager, married Millie and built a not-so-insubstantial number of sets for us!
