'THE EGG AND BUTTER MAN' by Rob Hickey

The play tells the story of my mother and father, as I know it and was told to me, from the time they first met to when I was about 8 years old. It is not a musical, but really a play with added recorded music of the time, that the characters mime and move to. The best way to explain the rationale for this is that the songs are those the characters loved and would be familiar with, hearing them on the radio, the movies, at their local dance halls, or sung around the pianola.
They would have these tunes in their heads and might reflect the moods of the characters and the situations they find themselves in. This play begins in the present me before jumping back to 1963 (when I was 8 years old) and then jumping back further to the war years 1937-46.
The Narrator breaks the “fourth wall”, addresses the audience directly and assumes roles within the play itself.

These plays are being considered for futureWDG seasons –
